What Werner has said about signing for Chelsea after his first-choice Liverpool rejected deal.

Chelsea have officially signed Timo Werner, with the Telegraph stating the move is at around £47.5m.

The player had been endlessly linked to Liverpool, with the Athletic confirming that the player’s preference was to join us and play for Jurgen Klopp, but in the end, the club decided the finances did not add up in this current climate.

Chelsea have pounced and will now be able to field an intriguing front-three of Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic next term – which is very decent – but not nearly as impressive as what Liverpool deploy up top.

Werner has peddled out a fairly cliche ridden message upon the confirmation of the deal, which if anything, is less enthusiastic than what he said about Liverpool when we were simply being linked with him!

‘I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,’ he told the official Chelsea website

‘I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years.

You will forever be in my heart. I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans.

Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.’

In all seriousness though, Werner will do well at Stamford Bridge. He’s a clinical forward with all the attributes and time on his side.

But even if he does well, which we think he will, Liverpool fans need to look at the overall picture and where the two sides finish in the table next term.

If Werner scores 30 goals but we still win the title, it cannot be branded a poor decision!

Werner wanted to house-hunt on Merseyside, but got anxious as no bid arrived For The Star; Klopp apologised, Knowing perfectly That Liverpool was his choice.

Timo Werner’s first-choice this summer was very much to sign for Liverpool, but it appears the German is now set for Chelsea after the Blues triggered his release-clause.

The Athletic claim that Werner and Jurgen Klopp have been in contact for months, with the player even planning on looking at Merseyside properties – but that when no bid arrived – he got cold feet and was convinced by Frank Lampard of Chelsea’s project after they found the fee no issue.

Importantly, Klopp called Werner to tell him the decision was because of money and not the player’s ability, and that the pair remain ‘on good terms,’ states the report.

FSG will not spend money the club do not have, and with the potential financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like another very quiet transfer window.

That being said, Liverpool have barely spent a penny since the summer transfer window of 2018 – effectively a two year self-imposed transfer ban – bar Takumi Minamino, Adrian and some youngsters.

It’s a risky game plan, but if anyone can achieve greatness under such circumstances, it’s Klopp – the world’s best manager.

Liverpool refuse to pay 'crazy' Werner fee over FFP fears in current climate.

Liverpool’s decision to pass on Timo Werner and allow him to join Chelsea, despite the player’s Anfield preference, was a solely financial one.

Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for the player has been clear, which is why the pair spoke on Zoom in April – but according to our sources – Liverpool’s manager outlined to the striker that he’d have to be patient if he wanted the transfer – with the Reds not willing to pay his release-clause given the current climate.

In the end, Werner decided to move to the team which was willing to spend the money and give him an automatic starting spot, which is his prerogative.

Dave Maddock of the Mirror called this a few weeks ago, and it’s come true. Interestingly, on Twitter last night, the journalist suggested that Liverpool are totally unwilling to potentially risk defying FFP regulations, unlike Chelsea – who we know already made severe losses last year and have agreed an enormous overall package with Werner.

On the basis of this, we can’t see Liverpool making any big transfers this summer, and should instead simply try and enjoy the fact football is coming back and we’re Premier League champions in waiting!

Liverpool in pole position to complete £50m signing... but there's a catch

Liverpool are in pole position to make their first signing ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are leading the race to sign RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, however, the transfer could be in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic. The forward has talked up a move to Anfield, with the Germany international hailing the Reds and his countryman Jurgen Klopp.
And according to The Independent, Liverpool are in pole position to sign Werner.

They say the German, 24, will be available for around £50m due to a release clause in his contract.
However, it's claimed the transfer could be in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Football has been suspended due to the deadly virus, with the Premier League aiming to return in June.

However, the loss of income in recent weeks could see clubs refusing to spend big in the summer transfer window.
The Independent say Liverpool will most likely have a fairly quite summer window.

The Reds will only go big if one of their stars pushes to leave or a key player picks up a serious injury.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche believes the club stand in good stead when it comes to keeping Werner and he predicts the market may struggle to operate when normality resumes after the coronavirus outbreak.

“It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists,” Krosche told Sport1.

“England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months.

“Everything is possible. We do not know how the transfer market is developing. We are looking into a very foggy glass ball.

“We do not know what our resources are and what the other clubs have in terms of opportunities.”

A lot has been made of Liverpool's summer transfer plans, with Reds hero John Aldridge claiming Klopp should sign Werner and one other player.

He said: "I think Liverpool fans can look forward to one or two big names in the transfer window this summer.

"Jurgen Klopp, like he always has done, has to look for players who are as good or better than he has. No squad padding this summer.

"Up front is probably the big area. At the moment, behind that three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, there is only Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino who are playing regularly.

"Liverpool will need another but that one player has to be absolute top drawer. For me, there is only one who fits the bill perfectly.

"That player is Timo Werner. All day long for me. Whenever I have seen him, he looks like the one for the Reds.

"For the prices you hear quoted for players, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho, in this climate, Werner seems the ideal option.

"Where else is Klopp going to strengthen? He has Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the attacking midfield area, so the squad is very settled at the minute.

"I would suggest another left-back that can push Andy Robertson and a top centre-forward.

"Will he go out and get a world-class attacker? We will wait and see but Liverpool have designs to win the lot now."

Timo Werner to Liverpool Transfer, Based on what we know

Liverpool and Timo Werner look set to be engaged in one of the more intriguing transfer sagas of the summer.

The forward has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, but it is the Reds who have been most consistently credited with interest in acquiring his services.

So where do things stand as we near the opening of the summer transfer window? Here’s what we know from our Liverpool correspondent David Lynch...

The player

It would be fair to say that Werner has made absolutely no secret of his desire to make the move to Liverpool this summer.

After helping RB Leipzig knock Tottenham out of the Champions League back in February (below), the German was asked about reported interested from Anfield and offered a reply that can fairly be considered as far from ‘coy’ as it gets.

"Liverpool are the best team in the world at the moment, and when you're linked with that team it makes me very proud,” the striker said.

"It's a pleasure but I know Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and to learn much more things to get on this level to play there."

Werner has also previously gone on record describing his compatriot Jurgen Klopp as “the best coach in the world”, further fanning the flames of speculation surrounding a potential Premier League switch.

If there are any guarantees around this transfer, the player’s desire to make it happen is one of them.

The club

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the feeling is reciprocated by Liverpool.

Sources close to the Reds have always maintained that it would be remiss of them not to be keeping an eye on a player with Werner’s record and profile.

However, there has been a marked shift in tone of late regarding whether they might actually follow up on any interest.

Rivals: Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with Werner.

More recently, Liverpool have seemed keen to project the idea that reports regarding their desire to sign the German have been greatly exaggerated.

Whether this is a negotiating tactic remains to be seen, but it would hardly be out of character for Klopp to eschew a high-profile summer signing in favour of a more frugal approach.

His team have taken huge strides this term despite failing to sign a single senior player last summer - might a repeat be on the cards?

The cost

Varying reports have placed the release clause in Werner’s RB Leipzig contract anywhere between €25m and €50m.

And perhaps Liverpool’s seemingly cooling interest owes something to the fact that figures at the higher end of that scale have surfaced more regularly of late.

Wener has previously called Klopp the 'best coach in the world'

In normal circumstances, that would represent a bargain for a player who has struck 71 goals in just 118 appearances in the Bundesliga for his current club.

However, the financial consequences of the ongoing coronavirus-enforced shutdown have yet to be understood in full, and they may well shift perceptions of what represents a good deal.

Even if we were able to put an exact figure on Werner’s release clause, it would be hard to know its actual value.

The alternatives

Werder Bremen wideman Milot Rashica is one of few players who have been consistently touted as a potential alternative to Werner.

With a record of 23 goals in 59 appearances in the Bundesliga at the age of just 23, the Kosovo international certainly possesses the sort of profile that Liverpool’s transfer chiefs tend to covet.

Still, it would be no surprise to see Klopp deliver on his recent declarations regarding the Reds’ reserves of “fresh blood” by dismissing the transfer market entirely.

Might either Harvey Elliott or Curtis Jones be ready to step up and feature more regularly in the front three next season?

And what impact can Takumi Minamino have after a slow start to his Anfield career following a January move from RB Salzburg?

Only Klopp and his staff can say with any confidence what is required for next season.

That's it for now stay safe.

Two things Liverpool absolutely must do to sign Timo Werner

Namely, pay the fees and play me regularly

Well this sounds interesting. What are these ‘two conditions’ that Jurgen Klopp must ‘iron out’ to get Werner at Liverpool? Some goal or assist bonuses, perhaps? An in-depth series of painstaking negotiations? Is there a clause that this must mean more?

Timo Werner has been in the news this week.

Werner will become a Liverpool player this summer,” says transfer expert Kaveh Solhekol.

“if Klopp decides to activate his £52m release clause and if he can convince Werner he will play regularly next season.”

So Liverpool will sign Timo werner only if they meet his demands

"Werner is a fast talented player and i'm looking forward in meeting his request, because I want him to play for Liverpool." said klopp.

Could these be a replacement for mane.

Anfield Transfers

How Liverpool could line up after £52m Timo Werner transfer this summer.

Liverpool have strongly been linked with a transfer for Timo Werner with the RB Leipzig striker keen to make the move to Anfield to work under Jurgen Klopp next season.

Timo Werner wants to move to Liverpool

Liverpool could be signing Timo Werner this summer if they trigger his £52m release clause before June 15.
But with a wealth of attacking talent already at their disposal, how does he fit in at the Reds?
There is no doubting the Germany international's skill and ability.
The RB Leipzig ace has scored 27 goals in all competitions this campaign, including 21 in 25 Bundesligaappearances.
His pace has been earmarked as his most frightening aspect, something not in short supply on Merseyside.
The likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are renowned for their speed - a weapon Jurgen Klopp has used ferociously.

What Timo Werner has been in fine form this season

The Liverpool duo have scored 36 goals between them this season as they marched relentlessly to a first Premier League trophy.

The title still eludes them, however, with the coronavirus crisis keeping it just out of reach.

Liverpool is Werner's preferred destination.

He is keen to work under his compatriot Klopp and has declared him one of the best coaches in the world.

But the former Borussia Dortmund boss has a particular way of playing that makes it hard for another attacker to break into.

Klopp's 4-3-3 means Salah and Mane operate either side of the selfless Roberto Firmino while the full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson bomb forward.

Werner could play alongside Salah, Firmino and Mane

Those who have tried to muscle in and failed include Xherdan Shaqiri, Dominic Solanke, Daniel Sturridge and, recently, TakumiTakumi Minamino - though the jury is out with the Japan international due to him only joining in January.

But if Liverpool were to splash out on the necessary £52m to bring Werner in, he would go straight into the side.

Klopp has used 4-4-2 at times during his reign and made the switch towards the beginning of the season in a bid to spruce up his team.

It would not be too hard to imagine a similar situation happening, with Mane out wide and Werner tucked in on the left-handed striking position.

The Thought Of All Four Attackers On The Pitch Is A Scary One For Any Defence In The World, Even If It Means Sacrificing A Midfielder That Would Bring Some Balance To The XI.

However, Klopp would likely rotate his forwards more often than not - though his strongest side would include the enire quartet.

Liverpool potential line up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Werner, Firmino, Salah.
