Micah Richards makes surprising and bold claim about Liverpool considering his allegiances

Micah Richards thinks Liverpool are one season away from being the best team in Premier League history.

The former Manchester City defender turned pundit reckons that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds would eclipse Pep Guardiola’s Centurions, Arsenal’s Invincibles and the great sides managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho if we galloped to glory once again.

Last term, we won the PL by 18 points, but in reality the gap was much bigger – as the title was wrapped up with seven games to go and at that point – we took our foot off the gas.

But City and Chelseas especially have spent big, while United have exceptional young players and Arsenal are a side with potential and a great striker.

So for Liverpool to go again, after two seasons of collecting 97 and then 99 points, with practically the same starting XI, will be a monumental achievement.

“If Liverpool win the title this season by clear daylight once again, we will be talking about the greatest team in Premier League history,” he wrote in his column for the Mail.

“That might seem a big thing for a former Manchester City player to say, given the rivalry that has developed in recent years between the clubs.

“I’m also making the statement as someone who was an Arsenal fan as young lad. I idolised the Invincibles and never thought they would be surpassed.

“But if Liverpool march away from the pack as they did last year, we will have to give them the ultimate acknowledgement. To win it again by another wide margin would be stunning as the challenge they face is completely different — and even more intense.”

Klopp fully backs the players currently at his disposal to do the job once again, and as a result, hasn’t pushed his owners into the transfer market – which we imagine suits FSG perfectly.
We’d like a few recruitments before the window closes, but still trust the current bunch of lads to do the business.

Four days to go: Can Reds break unbeaten Anfield record?

Liverpool could turn their remarkable unbeaten run at Anfield in the Premier League into an all-time club record when the new season begins.

Jürgen Klopp’s side last lost a home top-flight match in April 2017 and have since completed three full campaigns without a league defeat in L4.

Ahead of the 2020-21 kick-off this weekend, with newly-promoted Leeds United the visitors to Anfield, we take a closer look at the ongoing run and the milestones the Reds could reach.

Crystal Palace were the last away team to secure victory at Anfield in the Premier League with a 2-1 result at the tail end of the 2016-17 season.

Klopp’s men have come through the subsequent 59 home matches unscathed and will achieve the landmark of 60 unbeaten if they avoid defeat against Leeds on Saturday.

This group is now within touching distance of overhauling the club’s best ever run of home league games without a loss – the 63 achieved under Bob Paisley between 1978 and 1981.

Leeds, Arsenal, Sheffield United and West Ham United will stand in their way of equalling that all-time record in the early months of 2020-21; Leicester City would be their opponents for a potential new record of 64 unbeaten.

In terms of the Premier League era, their current streak is already comfortably the second-best ever posted, but they remain a fair way off setting a fresh benchmark for the division.

Chelsea’s tally of 86 home top-flight matches unbeaten from 2004 to 2008 – which was finally ended by the Reds – means Klopp’s team would have to extend their own run well into 2021-22 to overhaul them.

Of those last 59 league games unbeaten at Anfield, Liverpool have won 48 and they dropped only two points at home (to Burnley) in the entirety of the previous campaign.

Along the way, the champions also broke their own English record for the longest run of consecutive home league victories with 24 in a row.

Andy Gray claims Salah and Mane 'desperately' want to leave Liverpool for Spain

Andy Gray is known for his legendary nonsense – so we shouldn’t be surprised by these latest quotes in any way, shape or form.

The former Everton striker turned commentator and pundit often shares his dinosaur-like opinions about Liverpool – and these are definitely of that ilk…

Gray reckons that Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will now want to leave Liverpool after the Premier League victory for either Barcelona or Real Madrid – claiming ‘foreign footballers’ are ‘desperate’ to move to one of Spain’s big boys.

It sounds very much like Gray is confusing Mane and Salah for South Americans – and maybe for South Americans a few years ago – before Barca and Real Madrid’s slight demise – too.
“I’ve been saying to you for some time I think he will leave Liverpool sooner rather than later and I think Mane might also,” he told beIN Sport, cited by Team Talk.

“If [Salah] told Liverpool ‘by the way, I’m off this summer’, I think they’ve got a real battle on their hands.

“I don’t think Liverpool can afford to lose both of them.

“I don’t know what their contract terms are, I’m not sure how long each has got.

“I guess Mane [would] come up and say: ‘Well, if he’s going I want to go as well’. It’s a double battle.

“You only hope if you’re Liverpool that the success they’ve had – Champions League victory last year, championship this year – that that would be enough to keep them at the club.

“But we know foreign footballers have a different view of the Real Madrids and the Barcelonas of this world.

“They desperately want to play for them, desperately.”

The fact of the matter is Liverpool are a better team than both Real Madrid and Barcelona and have a better manager.
We have better players – a better structure – and a more loyal fanbase.

It’s not an impossibility one of our stars will one day fancy an adventure elsewhere, but it’s not the guarantee Gray suggests – and certainly not this summer.

Both are contracted until 2023 and it would require a world-record bid to secure either – something that is simply not going to arrive any time soon.

The latest Jadon Sancho transfer update is good news for Liverpool

Liverpool are not going to buy Jadon Sancho this summer – but it doesn’t look like anyone else will be able to either.

Borussia Dortmund have told journalists, including Jan Aage Fjortoft, that the Englishman’s price-tag is €120m.

There is no way Manchester United will pay that in the current climate and that looks like it’ll mean Sancho staying in Germany another year…

News Update;
Mane And Salah To Leave Liverpool "DESPERATELY"

By that point, Sancho will have only one year left on his contract which expires in 2020 – and his price-tag will have dramatically fallen.

News Update;
Manchester United Claims They Have A Plan That Will End Liverpool's Triumph

Providing football’s finances have started to right themselves following the hopeful end of the coronavirus, Liverpool will then be in a position to consider signing Sancho – a player we know from our own information would jump at the chance of an Anfield switch to play under Jurgen Klopp and alongside many England team-mates.

By that point, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will be approaching 30 and a high-level winger to support them might be needed.

We don’t need Sancho yet, but next summer, assuming we don’t spend heavily this – we might be in a position to buy – if his price-tag drops as expected and no other club takes the plunge this.

Five Things We Learned As We Lost To Arsenal Yesterday

Liverpool missed out on the opportunity to surpass 100 points in the Premier League and beat the all-time points record following a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Here is a look at what we learned from a difficult game.

Catastrophic mistakes cost us

Liverpool made not one, but two catastrophic errors that both led to goals as lapses of concentration proved to be the Reds’ downfall.

Virgil van Dijk, who has been Liverpool’s most consistent performer since his arrival in January 2018, gift-wrapped Arsenal’s route back into the game after his sloppy back-pass was intercepted by Alexandre Lacazette who didn’t need a second invitation to equalise after Sadio Mane’s opener.

It proved to be an evening where Liverpool’s elite players decided to get their mistakes out all at once.

FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year Alisson Becker shortly after also needlessly gave away the ball before Reiss Nelson punished what can only be described as suicidal defending.

Mane excellent despite defeat

One of the few positives for Liverpool was the performance of Mane who was by far our best-attacking threat.

The Senegalese ace tormented Arsenal in the first-half and his hard work was rewarded with a beautifully worked goal following clever link-up player from Roberto Firmino and Andy Robertson.

Mane had Six (6) more shots than any player on the pitch and produced four key passes – bettered only by Robertson. He also won three aerial duels which was surprisingly only bettered by Van Dijk as Mane looked to harass and hound back possession for his team.

His goal was converted with aplomb and took Mane’s PL total for the season to 17. He is now six goals shy of retaining his Premier League Golden Boot and with two games to go looks a little too optimistic to be deemed achievable.

Henderson a huge miss

While seeing Liverpool fall to defeat over the past 24 months has been a rarity, it isn’t surprising to see the team’s lack of discipline and concentration occur when Jordan Henderson is absent from the team.

The English champions’ irreplaceable club-captain has become the standard-bearer in the team and his leadership qualities have been hugely missed in Liverpool’s previous two games.

Henderson can except the odd mishap or mistake but two catastrophic errors just wouldn’t have been accepted by the Englishman who has become a winning machine in the past two years having added the Premier League to his growing accolades that include Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup.

Liverpool cannot refuse to ease up in their final two matches of the season and Henderson especially will be hugely frustrated if he is to lift the Premier League trophy following another disappointing result.

The team owe it to their captain to put things right against Chelsea.

Tough night for Fabinho and Salah

Fabinho who has previously been described by assistant manager Pep Ljinders as the club’s very own ‘lighthouse’ was the standout player against Burnley at the weekend but was hugely disappointing against Arsenal in the capital.

The Brazilian powerhouse was surprisingly sloppy in possession and looked the shadow of his former self having given the ball away needlessly on far too many occasions.

Despite a passing accuracy of 87 per cent, Fabinho was bettered in that regard by five of his Liverpool teammates and he only managed to win 50 per cent of his tackles attempted.

The same woes can be said when describing Mohamed Salah’s performance, who enjoyed one of his quieter performances for Liverpool this season.

Salah managed just 14 passes all night as well as a disappointing 27 touches. The Egyptian cut the image of a player that looked lost rather than a man possessed to retain his Premier League Golden Boot for a third successive season.

Midfield woe

In recent performances, it has seemed that Klopp has struggled to find a solution in midfield to cope with the absence of Henderson and vice-captain James Milner.

Similarly to Burnley, Liverpool totally dominated possession but failed to find any cutting-edge in their delivery to break through Arsenal lines.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled on his return to the Emirates and Georginio Wijnaldum looked out of ideas on far too many occasions when on the ball.

Naby Keita has impressed in recent weeks and is arguably the most deserving of a place when the Reds return to action against Chelsea at Anfield next Wednesday.

"It was Liverpool v Nick Pope" - Klopp praises Burnley goalkeeper as Reds drop points at Anfield

Liverpool failed to win at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time in 18 months after Burnley scraped a 1-1 draw on Merseyside.

Credit where it’s due, goalkeeper Nick Pope kept the Lancashire outfit in the game and Jay Rodriguez struck late on with an equaliser.

The Reds pushed for a last-minute winner, but Mo Salah’s final kick of the game – a whimper of a shot on his weaker foot – summed up our potency going forward on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp was complimentary of Pope post-match, and saw some positives in Liverpool’s game. “Good performance in most parts,” he’s quoted as saying by Paul Gorst.

It was Liverpool v Nick Pope. A challenge to create against a team so well organised. There was always one guy who was out to deny us and we left it open for Burnley.

The boss refused to put any of the blame on match officials, with some supporters questioning whether or not we should have had a penalty in the second-half.

Like many fans right now, Klopp will be well aware of the one big target we’ve got left this season – Manchester City’s points record.

With that in mind, dropping two points in the pursuit of near-perfection isn’t ideal – and he’ll know that. The Reds now need to win the remaining three games to break 100 points.

It’s a fine thing to be worried about to be fair, with Liverpool already confirmed as the Champions of England!

Roy Keane explains when he'll consider judging Liverpool as a 'really good team'

Roy Keane believes Liverpool must follow up this season’s likely Premier League title with a succession of them over the next decade before he considers us a special outfit.

The Irishman has explained how many sides or players can do it for one or two years, but the great ones build a legacy and perform at the top level consistently.

“I’m certainly not anti-Liverpool. When I was growing up in the ’80s, Liverpool were obviously a brilliant team and I had a lot of respect for players like Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton. I take my hat off to [that] Liverpool. They were a very, very good team. They were constantly winning League titles,” Keane told the Irish Independent.
“People will always connect me with United, but I would never begrudge a team winning the league. They deserve it. They have been outstanding over the last couple of seasons. The sign of any good team is to be consistent, and that’s what they’ve been.

“So, to win the title is amazing, a fantastic achievement, but the important thing for any big club is to kick on. How many titles can they win over the next five, ten years? That’s how I judge the really good teams.

“It’s the same with players. I’ve seen players have one or two good seasons and they get a bit giddy, a bit excited. And before you know it, you don’t hear of them any more.”

In some ways, Keane has a point – and many Reds will be disappointed if our current team – in all its brilliance – doesn’t go on to define this football era – considering half the starting XI is arguably the best player in the world in his position.

Right now, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are five points from confirmed Premier League title glory, following the 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park. The team ran out of ideas late on, but still kept a clean-sheet and will hope to show some more offensive thrust at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.

When we could wrap it up depends on Manchester City’s results, but assuming Pep Guardiola’s side win their games – we could secure no.19 with a win over Palace and either a draw or a victory v City themselves on Wednesday next week.

JURGEN KLOPP REFUSES PSG APPROACH

Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Allegedly Rejected An Approach From Paris Saint-German.

According to Le10 Sport, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp rejected an approach from Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo at the end of 2019.

It’s claimed that Leonardo started reaching out to managers in December 2019, contacting the out-of-work Massimiliano Allegri to see if he would fancy a move to Paris.

However, Leonardo also attempted an audacious move by contacting Liverpool boss Klopp – and it’s no great surprise that the approach was batted away.

Klopp allegedly said he didn’t see himself leaving Liverpool in the ‘short or medium term’, and was very happy at Anfield, so Leonardo moved on.

Thomas Tuchel’s job is seemingly at risk despite PSG being crowned Ligue 1 champions, and he even guided them into the last eight of the Champions League.

Leonard Paris Saint-Germain Director of Football looks on before warmup before the French Cup match between Linas Montlhery and Paris Saint-Germain on January 05, 2020 in Bondoufle, France.

The German may still be replaced this summer, but at least Liverpool fans don’t need to be worried about the prospect of Klopp leaving any time soon.

In December, Klopp signed a new contract until 2024 anyway, so it was very bold of Leonardo to even try such a move, with the German clearly not planning to leave any time soon – even for the riches of PSG.

The Manager Himself

LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB
Jürgen Klopp

Jürgen Klopp: We're not the finished article, this team can improve

Jürgen Klopp sees ample scope for improvement within his current squad as he insisted: "We are not the finished article."
After winning the Champions League in 2018-19, Liverpool sprinted into a commanding 25-point lead of the Premier League – with just two games of 29 not won – before the season was halted indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
And there’ll be no slowing down by the Reds when football resumes, with Klopp enthused by the prospect of making further gains in the future.

“We will not change [mentality], that’s the first thing,” the manager told Sky Sports during an interview via video link.

“If we will be successful depends what other clubs are doing as well because they all have a chance to improve things, to do things better. So I have no clue what the future will hold for us. But we will not change, this team is not a finished article, it’s not done.

“We have a lot of space for improvement and we work on that. We have lots fresh blood coming up internally, we can mix things through. There are a lot of things we can improve obviously, but we can improve it with this team, which is really great.”

Klopp continued: “Life is a constant challenge and we realise it in this moment especially because we never faced a challenge like the one we have now. It looks like the situations we had in the past where we thought they are big problems, they look like nothing.

“Qualifying again for a Champions League final and not winning the league because of a point or 11mm, that could be hard. But we always saw it like this: the only way to get something is to give everything. But it’s not a guarantee.

“The boys were always ready to give their all, absolutely all and try again and try again and try again. Then there are two possible scenarios. One is you lose the final, one is you win the final. You lose the final, there is still a wonderful experience to go there because you had to qualify from the semi-finals, the quarter-finals, the last 16, you have to go through the group stage. You can take so much confidence from it and that’s what we did from the Champions League defeat against Madrid.

“"It was a strange final and it said nothing about the boys, absolutely nothing. The only thing we realised was we were good enough to cause a few more teams problems now. That was exactly the plan for the next season.
“In this season we are at the end of April and it didn’t start again, that’s clear, but whenever we can play again – whenever it will be – we will not give up. In the moment when it’s allowed to concentrate on football again for us, we will do that again and we will start with that again and try our best again. We will see when it will be."” he said

The close bonds inside the Liverpool dressing room have only been emphasised by the footage of their online training sessions in recent weeks.
Their regular peeks at the workouts, including yoga and cycling, reveal the camaraderie and togetherness that has underpinned the team’s progress.

For Klopp, personal relationships with players has to tread a careful balance to ensure he can always have the greatest professional impact possible.

“My players aren’t my sons but my sons are now turning 35 and 32, and that’s pretty much exactly the same,” he said.

“There are moments when you are a father, there are moments when you are a friend, there are moments when you have to criticise them. These things are always exactly the same. I always did that with my players as well.”

“We can have a really close relationship and the closer relationship you get, the more you have to tell the truth to the boys because they judge you on that. I explained it once and said I really want to be the friend of my players but I cannot be their best friend. That’s how it is.”

“A friend has to tell you the truth, a friend has to tell you what you can do better, a friend has to – and will – always tell you what is right and what is wrong. That’s exactly what I do, but never in a manner that they cannot get up next morning.”

“It’s always the same reason: I want to help them. I have no other job. My job is to help the boys to be the best player they can be, and there are a few things to do.”

Klopp is nearing 20 years in management having first stepped into the dugout with Mainz in 2001.

He went on to guide Borussia Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final appearance during a seven-season tenure that made him one of the most sought-after coaches in the game.
His methods have continued to accrue success across four-and-a-half years with Liverpool, too, with the Reds most recently crowned world champions in December.
Asked if and how his tactics have changed over the course of his managerial career,

Klopp said: “Some ideas were always the same, the organisation – or the idea about organisation – was similar, where I wanted my teams to win the ball back and stuff like this.

“These things never really change because I just think they are right, but of course as a manager you have to adapt your style to the quality of the players you have available.

“The quality increased a lot in the last few years, not only here; at Dortmund it was already different to Mainz. At Mainz it was different from year to year.

“But it’s all about the organisation. It’s not that I have a fixed idea of how it should be and then I try to push it through with the boys, it’s just I try to understand exactly the quality and skills of the boys and then to use that. Because the pitch in all my career was always the same size and the rules didn’t change too much since I was a manager. So these things are clear, so you have to try to adapt to different situations.

“Of course, a lot of things changed. The way I work changed; I started alone, now I have a lot of coaches next to me. That’s all different to how it was.”said Klopp.

Muphy: I wish I had stayed at Liverpool and fought for my place

Theformer Reds and England midfielder regrets leaving Anfield before they went on to win the Champions League

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy says he regrets leaving the club before they won the Champions Leagueunder Rafael Benitez.

The ex-midfielder joined the Reds from Crewe Alexandra at the age of 20 and spent seven years with the Anfield outfit.

He won the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Liverpool, but left to join Charlton in 2004 having made almost 250 appearances in all competitions.

The following year, Liverpool went on to finish fifth in the English top-flight and lose the League Cup final to Chelsea, but Benitez’s men stunned Europe by claiming the Champions League crown in thrilling fashion.

The Reds trailed Carlo Ancelotti’s AC Milan 3-0 at half-time, but bounced back in the second-half to tie 3-3 before beating the Italian giants in a penalty shootout.

Missing out on that historic campaign is one of Murphy’s biggest regrets, as he admits he wishes he had stayed at Anfield even though he would likely have been limited to a minor role.

“I feel very blessed. I feel lucky to have played for the team I supported and loved growing up. It's all I ever wanted to do,” he told BBC Sport. “To win trophies playing for the team you love as well is very surreal. It's probably only when you look back now in hindsight that you realise the enormity of it.

Wolves' Jota beats Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold to win ePremier League

“The only thing for me of course is that the year I left they won the Champions League. Maybe I could have stayed and fought a bit harder under Rafa.

“It was a difficult decision for me at the time because I was so used to playing and I loved playing. He made it clear to me more than once that that wasn't going to be the case, so I had a difficult choice to make in a short period.

“People say they have no regrets. Well, I do, I regret not staying, but life is what it is. It was a wonderful seven years for me and being part of that Liverpool family is still very special to me.”

Jurgen Klopp hailed by Liverpool legend Ian Rush

Ian Rush is often at Anfield to watch his former side and the Liverpool legend has claimed Jurgen Klopp's team have the credentials to become greats.

Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes Jurgen Klopp's side are capable of surpassing the great teams of the past at Anfield. The former striker has hailed the achievements of the current Premier League leaders who are set to end 30-years of hurt by winning the title.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be about to sign his very own Suarez. Liverpool concerned about other club in talks with Timo Werner

Rush won two European Cups and five titles during his time at Liverpool and now he has backed his former side to go out and win more silverware in style.

When comparing the team he played in to the current Liverpool side, Rush claims they now need to back up the records they are breaking with more trophies.

He said: “To be on a par, they need success but looking back at records they’re actually better. You could say that they were better than our team because they broke more records. But you do need trophies - it does help!

“They are right up there. But you ask me what players now would get into our team and it would still be difficult because we had so many great players when I was playing.

Premier League cancellation would lead to 'complexities' - Dyche

Ian Rush has heaped praise on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his players.

“When you look at the records they’ve broken this season. Look at last season, they got 96 points and didn’t win the league so they have upped their game again.

“To not win the league last season after getting 96 points, Jurgen Klopp had to turn round and say: ‘we’ve got to do even better.’ They have done better.

“They’ve been absolutely incredible this season, breaking all the records and they have to be right up there with the best.”

Liverpool are moving at a record-breaking trajectory this season and should the campaign be completed, they look set to smash the record points tally in the Premier League.

Liverpool star Salah tells Klopp why he's ignored Lovren's calls.
They are also likely to win the title by the biggest ever margin to go with their achievements of best start to the season, most home wins while they also equalled the record for 18 consecutive victories.

Rush, who was speaking with The Football Pools' launch of the #ForTheNurses campaign which supports nurses who have been affected by COVID-19, claims Klopp has installed a similar atmosphere in the Anfield dressing room to former teams of the past.

“I look at the teams that I played in and I think we got by because of a tremendous team spirit. It’s in the dressing room and every morning when they go in, the team spirit seems so good. That’s what we had as well,” said Rush.

“It’s difficult to say what was the team I played in. You could look at the team of 1984 when we did the Treble, that was an absolutely amazing team, that was my best season personally when I scored 47 goals but I always look at the 1986 season when we did the Double.

Ian Rush has claimed Liverpool could surpass his former side's achievements .
Liverpool face unpaid £35m bill from Barcelona over Philippe Coutinho.

“This squad - and I say squad rather than team - are exactly the same. What Jurgen Klopp has done as well, we called it the boot room with Bob Paisley manager, Ronnie Moran, Joe Fagan and Roy Evans, he’s got a great team behind him with his coaching staff.

“It’s the coaching staff that keep the players happy, entertained and you need a leader. Paisley was that leader in our day and Jurgen is that leader today and that makes all the difference.”
