News Update

Liverpool Fans buzzing as Mohamed Salah Contract Update Emerges

The Egyptian, who has played a vital role under manager Jurgen Klopp since he signed from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, definitely played his part over what was a difficult 2020/21 campaign. Blighted by injury problems, Liverpool couldn’t retain their Premier League crown as they watched Manchester City clinch domestic glory.

liverpool fans are always interested when that their best player gets a new contract or a contract extension, in this case Salah is liverpool's best player in terms of attacking and there is nothing better than hearing that he is getting an extension. As we all know how this works he is surely going to get a raise

However, Salah remained imperious with his individual displays – scoring 22 goals and setting up five more in the Premier League alone whilst attempting more shots on goal per match (3.4) than any other Liverpool player (WhoScored).

As a result, many supporters are keen to see him tied down with a bumper new deal, and Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst has brought an update.

He explained that FSG and the club are eager to reward the 29-year-old with a contract which will make him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history. Indeed, an increase on Salah’s current £200,000-per-week salary will even take him above the record shared by him and former Reds star Luis Suarez.

Buzzing over this “massively significant” update, many Reds fans took to Twitter in sheer joy over Liverpool’s stance – check out some of their best responses to LFC Transfer Room, Anfield Watch and Liverpool News below.

Andy Gray claims Salah and Mane 'desperately' want to leave Liverpool for Spain

Andy Gray is known for his legendary nonsense – so we shouldn’t be surprised by these latest quotes in any way, shape or form.

The former Everton striker turned commentator and pundit often shares his dinosaur-like opinions about Liverpool – and these are definitely of that ilk…

Gray reckons that Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will now want to leave Liverpool after the Premier League victory for either Barcelona or Real Madrid – claiming ‘foreign footballers’ are ‘desperate’ to move to one of Spain’s big boys.

It sounds very much like Gray is confusing Mane and Salah for South Americans – and maybe for South Americans a few years ago – before Barca and Real Madrid’s slight demise – too.
“I’ve been saying to you for some time I think he will leave Liverpool sooner rather than later and I think Mane might also,” he told beIN Sport, cited by Team Talk.

“If [Salah] told Liverpool ‘by the way, I’m off this summer’, I think they’ve got a real battle on their hands.

“I don’t think Liverpool can afford to lose both of them.

“I don’t know what their contract terms are, I’m not sure how long each has got.

“I guess Mane [would] come up and say: ‘Well, if he’s going I want to go as well’. It’s a double battle.

“You only hope if you’re Liverpool that the success they’ve had – Champions League victory last year, championship this year – that that would be enough to keep them at the club.

“But we know foreign footballers have a different view of the Real Madrids and the Barcelonas of this world.

“They desperately want to play for them, desperately.”

The fact of the matter is Liverpool are a better team than both Real Madrid and Barcelona and have a better manager.
We have better players – a better structure – and a more loyal fanbase.

It’s not an impossibility one of our stars will one day fancy an adventure elsewhere, but it’s not the guarantee Gray suggests – and certainly not this summer.

Both are contracted until 2023 and it would require a world-record bid to secure either – something that is simply not going to arrive any time soon.

Anfield Updates

Reasons Why Mo. Salah Is So Special.

Punch their names into your search engines and Klopp’s admiration for Salah can be viewed repeatedly. Words such as ‘sensational’ and ‘exceptional’ are the only ones appropriate when you consider what Salah has achieved at Anfield.

So, what makes him so special?

It’s such an important season for him, after a flying season in which nearly every shot was a goal, then being assessed by everyone, is it just a one-season thing?

“Keeping that level [the next season] is an even bigger achievement than scoring 40 goals last season, which was already an incredible achievement.”

Virgil van Dijk’s majestic performances at the back, Jordan Henderson’s leadership, Roberto Firmino’s skilful forward play and Sadio Mane’s brilliance means Salah is no longer the only player for Klopp to wax lyrical over.

But he continues to be Liverpool’s Mr Reliable in terms of goals. Nobody had been able to break the Messi-Ronaldo top two in European football’s scoring charts over a sustained period. Salah has managed it.

He’s done it through an insatiable desire to become the best - a quality associated with both Messi and Ronaldo - and Liverpool have reaped the rewards.

“Mo Salah isn’t selfish because he is a goalscorer,” says team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. “He’s got to do that. We can’t expect him to pass us the ball all the time and him to score loads of goals. The way he plays wins us games so he’s got to do what he’s got to do.”

Salah’s selfish streak isn’t always appreciated by his colleagues though. He infuriated Mane during the game at Burnley earlier this season after he elected not to pass and go it alone.

Salah didn’t score and Mane could be seen remonstrating long after Klopp substituted him at Turf Moor.

“These are things that happen in football,” explained Mane, once he’d calmed down. “Sometimes you have to say things face to face.

“Sometimes it happens that I am not given the pass. But we have reconciled and become the good friends we were before.”

But what’s it like to come up against the Egyptian King? Former Reds left-back Alberto Moreno often had to mark him in training and counts himself lucky that Salah doesn’t operate at full tilt at Melwood.

“I think Salah trains at 20 per cent because he's scared of injuring himself,” Moreno revealed.

None more so than Eddie Howe, whose Bournemouth side are the team Salah enjoys playing against most.

He’s scored in all six of the Premier League games he’s played against Bournemouth for the Reds - eight goals in total - including a hat-trick on the south coast last season.

While Howe hasn’t enjoyed his encounters with Salah over the past three seasons, his admiration for Liverpool’s number 11 has soared.

“When you are watching as a neutral or scouting a game, I think you can appreciate the quality of these players," says Howe.

“I am looking at them to see how I can transfer certain elements of their game into our players, and seeing what traits make them so unique.

“I have admired many of his performances this season, maybe not the ones against us, but that then becomes a different emotion.”

Salah’s showings have even drawn comparisons to six-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and the Argentine is a fan of the Reds superstar.

“He has been amazing for Liverpool. I like his style,” said Messi in a short but incredibly sweet appraisal of Salah’s credentials.

Messi is approaching his 33rd birthday and someone will soon have to succeed him as football’s number one. Why can’t that man be Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah?

Mo Salah and Andy Robertson injury update pre-Everton clash will delight Reds

It looks like Liverpool will be at full strength next weekend for the Merseyside Derby, with Andy Robertson and Mo Salah overcoming recent minor injury concerns.

The duo both featured in a friendly game played at Anfield yesterday – so should be totally fine by next Sunday.

Liverpool squad has no fitness worries so far ahead of first game back.

There was an inter-squad game at Anfield yesterday, which involved Mo Salah and Andy Robertson after they had sat out Blackburn friendly as a precaution.

We think Jurgen Klopp’s first starting XI of the season’s resumption will be as follows: Alisson, Trent, Robbo, Gomez, van Dijk; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

The only contentious spot is whether to select Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain or Keita alongside Fabinho and captain Hendo in midfield,
– but we think the manner in which Keita has regained fitness and shone in the off-season might well have earned him a start,
 – especially as the other two have had niggling injury issues.

Liverpool need six more points to guarantee the title – but only three if Arsenal do us a favour and beat Manchester City on Wednesday.

Anfield Updates

What makes Mohamed Salah so special? Team-mates, rivals and managers lift lid on Liverpool superstar.

Mohamed Salah has been the Premier League’s best player since he signed for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah has scored 70 goals in his first 100 Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

He claimed the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award in his first season at Anfield, pipping Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne thanks to a stunning 32-goal haul in the Premier League.

Inevitably there were some who thought the Egyptian would prove to be a ‘one season wonder’ - but they have been well and truly silenced.

With 70 goals in his first 100 Premier League appearances Salah has been the most prolific player in England since the summer of 2017. Only Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has scored more goals than Salah in this period across Europe’s elite leagues.

Salah has won back-to-back golden boot awards and with 16 league goals this season - three short of top scorer Jamie Vardy - there’s every chance he could add a third to his individual trophy collection.

His trajectory to becoming a potential Ballon d’Or winner wasn’t straightforward though. There were bumps along the road, most notably a failed stint at the Reds’ Premier League rivals Chelsea.

"I played against Basel in the Champions League,” says Jose Mourinho. “Salah was a kid at Basel. When I play against a certain team I analyse a team and players for quite a long time.

"And I fell in love with that kid. I bought the kid.”

Although he won’t admit it, Mourinho gave up on Salah too quickly at Chelsea. The man who has coaxed the best oWhat ut of the mercurial forward is Jurgen Klopp.

Such was Salah’s individual brilliance during those early days, there was a time when Klopp couldn’t escape an interview without being asked about the star in his front three.

Private Mohamed Salah message at Melwood has stuck with Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott is looking to follow in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

Harvey Elliott has hailed the influence of Mohamed Salah on his Liverpool career so far, claiming that he has the perfect role model in the Egyptian.
Salah is in his third season at Anfield now and has already won two Premier League golden boots and the Champions League.
Liverpool Youngster hailed M. Salah
For a teenager like Elliott, Salah is the perfect player to look up to when on the training pitch.

As a childhood Liverpool fan, Elliott has been watching the performances of Salah closely even during his time at Fulham.

Now he has the chance to interact with the former Chelsea and Roma man behind the scenes at Melwood, something that Elliott isn't taking for granted.

When asked to describe Salah in an interview with assistant manager Pep Ljinders on the Liverpool website, Elliott spoke very highly of his team-mate: "King, I would say!" said Elliott when asked to describe the Egyptian.

"Just because of his style of play and who he is on and off the pitch.
"Myself, looking at him in my position, I idolise him a lot."
Salah has even been helping Elliott behind the scenes, by pushing him to be the best he can possibly be.
"To be going up against him in training, I learn a lot of things from him," Elliott added.
"Even in the gym as well, he is telling me to do a higher weight, push myself even more.
"To have him in the club and around us young players, he is a really big influence."
Elliott was signed from Fulham last summer, having made his Premier League debut for the Cottagers at just 16.
He was only 15 when he made his senior debut and was handed his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool against Sheffield United in January.
Before that, he was handed a handful of chances to impress in the League Cup and FA Cup, something he grasped with both hands.
Youngster replaces Salah in debut game

Klopp was left impressed by his application and maturity in October as the Reds edged Arsenal on penalties after a 5-5 draw in the Carabao Cup.
“It’s easy to be convinced about him when you see him training,” Klopp said of Elliott.
“He is an exceptional talent, absolutely, and he’s a nice kid as well.
“To see him, how he encouraged the crowd around the corners… I had a couple of moments where I was really touched tonight, to be honest. So for a few moments, that’s really cool.
“And when I was already in the dressing room and I saw on the TV screen that he’s still doing his lap of honour and giving pretty much everything away, that’s too nice."
