Four days to go: Can Reds break unbeaten Anfield record?

Liverpool could turn their remarkable unbeaten run at Anfield in the Premier League into an all-time club record when the new season begins.

Jürgen Klopp’s side last lost a home top-flight match in April 2017 and have since completed three full campaigns without a league defeat in L4.

Ahead of the 2020-21 kick-off this weekend, with newly-promoted Leeds United the visitors to Anfield, we take a closer look at the ongoing run and the milestones the Reds could reach.

Crystal Palace were the last away team to secure victory at Anfield in the Premier League with a 2-1 result at the tail end of the 2016-17 season.

Klopp’s men have come through the subsequent 59 home matches unscathed and will achieve the landmark of 60 unbeaten if they avoid defeat against Leeds on Saturday.

This group is now within touching distance of overhauling the club’s best ever run of home league games without a loss – the 63 achieved under Bob Paisley between 1978 and 1981.

Leeds, Arsenal, Sheffield United and West Ham United will stand in their way of equalling that all-time record in the early months of 2020-21; Leicester City would be their opponents for a potential new record of 64 unbeaten.

In terms of the Premier League era, their current streak is already comfortably the second-best ever posted, but they remain a fair way off setting a fresh benchmark for the division.

Chelsea’s tally of 86 home top-flight matches unbeaten from 2004 to 2008 – which was finally ended by the Reds – means Klopp’s team would have to extend their own run well into 2021-22 to overhaul them.

Of those last 59 league games unbeaten at Anfield, Liverpool have won 48 and they dropped only two points at home (to Burnley) in the entirety of the previous campaign.

Along the way, the champions also broke their own English record for the longest run of consecutive home league victories with 24 in a row.

(Video) Neco Williams' interview after Wales winner is absolute class

We haven’t actually heard Neco Williams speak before, we don’t think.

The young right-back has a strong Welsh accent (understandably!) and speaks like a footballer in his mid-20s – his confidence in front of camera mirrors how he plays on the pitch – in fact.

Scroll To The Bottom To Watch Video

Last night, Liverpool’s right-back, on his Wales debut, headed in a winner in the 94th minute to help his country beat Bulgaria.

The celebrations after the goal were epic – and everyone at the club is delighted for him.

We reckon he has a good chance of starting at the weekend against Leeds, in fact, with Trent Alexander-Arnold not playing a big part of pre-season so far due to an injury.

Andy Gray claims Salah and Mane 'desperately' want to leave Liverpool for Spain

Andy Gray is known for his legendary nonsense – so we shouldn’t be surprised by these latest quotes in any way, shape or form.

The former Everton striker turned commentator and pundit often shares his dinosaur-like opinions about Liverpool – and these are definitely of that ilk…

Gray reckons that Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will now want to leave Liverpool after the Premier League victory for either Barcelona or Real Madrid – claiming ‘foreign footballers’ are ‘desperate’ to move to one of Spain’s big boys.

It sounds very much like Gray is confusing Mane and Salah for South Americans – and maybe for South Americans a few years ago – before Barca and Real Madrid’s slight demise – too.
“I’ve been saying to you for some time I think he will leave Liverpool sooner rather than later and I think Mane might also,” he told beIN Sport, cited by Team Talk.

“If [Salah] told Liverpool ‘by the way, I’m off this summer’, I think they’ve got a real battle on their hands.

“I don’t think Liverpool can afford to lose both of them.

“I don’t know what their contract terms are, I’m not sure how long each has got.

“I guess Mane [would] come up and say: ‘Well, if he’s going I want to go as well’. It’s a double battle.

“You only hope if you’re Liverpool that the success they’ve had – Champions League victory last year, championship this year – that that would be enough to keep them at the club.

“But we know foreign footballers have a different view of the Real Madrids and the Barcelonas of this world.

“They desperately want to play for them, desperately.”

The fact of the matter is Liverpool are a better team than both Real Madrid and Barcelona and have a better manager.
We have better players – a better structure – and a more loyal fanbase.

It’s not an impossibility one of our stars will one day fancy an adventure elsewhere, but it’s not the guarantee Gray suggests – and certainly not this summer.

Both are contracted until 2023 and it would require a world-record bid to secure either – something that is simply not going to arrive any time soon.

The latest Jadon Sancho transfer update is good news for Liverpool

Liverpool are not going to buy Jadon Sancho this summer – but it doesn’t look like anyone else will be able to either.

Borussia Dortmund have told journalists, including Jan Aage Fjortoft, that the Englishman’s price-tag is €120m.

There is no way Manchester United will pay that in the current climate and that looks like it’ll mean Sancho staying in Germany another year…

News Update;
Mane And Salah To Leave Liverpool "DESPERATELY"

By that point, Sancho will have only one year left on his contract which expires in 2020 – and his price-tag will have dramatically fallen.

News Update;
Manchester United Claims They Have A Plan That Will End Liverpool's Triumph

Providing football’s finances have started to right themselves following the hopeful end of the coronavirus, Liverpool will then be in a position to consider signing Sancho – a player we know from our own information would jump at the chance of an Anfield switch to play under Jurgen Klopp and alongside many England team-mates.

By that point, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will be approaching 30 and a high-level winger to support them might be needed.

We don’t need Sancho yet, but next summer, assuming we don’t spend heavily this – we might be in a position to buy – if his price-tag drops as expected and no other club takes the plunge this.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tipped to make two key signings to catch Liverpool

Manchester United are ready to spend in the transfer window.

Manchester United are two signings away from closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City, former Old Trafford ace Mark Bosnich claims. The Red Devils are ready to splash the cash in the transfer window.

United will have extra funds after they finished in the top four and secured Champions League football for next season.
The Red Devils are eyeing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, while Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish is also a target.

United have also been tipped to sign a centre-back, while Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also needs to sort out his goalkeeper situation.

David De Gea has failed to impress this season and Dean Henderson has many admirers after an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United.

And former Premier League goalkeeper Bosnich says United are just two signings away from closing the gap on champions Liverpool.

When asked where United need to strengthen, Bosnich told Sky Sports: "Definitely someone to play next to Harry Magurie.

"There's a chap at Napoli called  Kalidou Koulibaly who's a fantastic player but he will cost a lot of money.

"That's one position they definitely need to strengthen.

"After what happened with Marcus Rashford's stress fractures, they have to go and get Odion Ighalo on loan, I really think they need to have more cover in that position if they are to go on and challenge for the title.

We spoke about the goalkeeping position and United will need to make a decision on that.

"But if they strengthen in those two positions, and they strengthen very well, they will be up there next season.

"The points difference you see now between them and Liverpool will not be the same next season whatsoever."

After securing Champions League football for next season and boosting their transfer kitty, United boss Solskjaer demanded the board back him this summer.

"For this team, it means better opposition next year and bigger games," Solskjaer said when asked what a top-four finish means.

"We need to step it up because it means every midweek you've got to go with your best team.

"In the Europa League, we've rested players and given an amount of minutes to young lads. Now, we've got to go for every game.

"You've got to go and get fitter and stronger and more robust. That's another part of the Champions League - of course, financial gain. But that's not in my head.

"The club know what I feel we need and we're going to try and pursue it. So let's see where we end up."

United beat Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on the final day of the Premier League season.
The win secured a third placed finish and Champions League football for next season.

Why Adam Lallana signing for Everton could make perfect sense – opinion

Adam Lallana has been tipped to join Liverpool’s bitter rivals Everton on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are thought to be favourites for the midfielder’s signature, according to the Star, but they’re far from alone in the running.

The Telegraph report that Carlo Ancelotti is interested in the 32-year-old, but will also face competition from Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace for the Liverpool man.

The Blues could have a unique advantage if they are truly interested in Lallana because Everton was his boyhood club and his dad is a supporter.

Lallana has had a memorable career at Anfield – he joined us when we were at a low point and remained part of the squad as we climbed back to the summit.

He’ll leave the Reds this summer as a winner of both the Champions League and Premier League, and we at Empire of the Kop will wish him all the best – even if he makes the trip across Stanley Park.

Lallana will leave a hole in the squad, but we don’t think Liverpool will splash the cash to replace him and instead fancy young Curtis Jones to fill the void.

Five Things We Learned As We Lost To Arsenal Yesterday

Liverpool missed out on the opportunity to surpass 100 points in the Premier League and beat the all-time points record following a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Here is a look at what we learned from a difficult game.

Catastrophic mistakes cost us

Liverpool made not one, but two catastrophic errors that both led to goals as lapses of concentration proved to be the Reds’ downfall.

Virgil van Dijk, who has been Liverpool’s most consistent performer since his arrival in January 2018, gift-wrapped Arsenal’s route back into the game after his sloppy back-pass was intercepted by Alexandre Lacazette who didn’t need a second invitation to equalise after Sadio Mane’s opener.

It proved to be an evening where Liverpool’s elite players decided to get their mistakes out all at once.

FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year Alisson Becker shortly after also needlessly gave away the ball before Reiss Nelson punished what can only be described as suicidal defending.

Mane excellent despite defeat

One of the few positives for Liverpool was the performance of Mane who was by far our best-attacking threat.

The Senegalese ace tormented Arsenal in the first-half and his hard work was rewarded with a beautifully worked goal following clever link-up player from Roberto Firmino and Andy Robertson.

Mane had Six (6) more shots than any player on the pitch and produced four key passes – bettered only by Robertson. He also won three aerial duels which was surprisingly only bettered by Van Dijk as Mane looked to harass and hound back possession for his team.

His goal was converted with aplomb and took Mane’s PL total for the season to 17. He is now six goals shy of retaining his Premier League Golden Boot and with two games to go looks a little too optimistic to be deemed achievable.

Henderson a huge miss

While seeing Liverpool fall to defeat over the past 24 months has been a rarity, it isn’t surprising to see the team’s lack of discipline and concentration occur when Jordan Henderson is absent from the team.

The English champions’ irreplaceable club-captain has become the standard-bearer in the team and his leadership qualities have been hugely missed in Liverpool’s previous two games.

Henderson can except the odd mishap or mistake but two catastrophic errors just wouldn’t have been accepted by the Englishman who has become a winning machine in the past two years having added the Premier League to his growing accolades that include Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup.

Liverpool cannot refuse to ease up in their final two matches of the season and Henderson especially will be hugely frustrated if he is to lift the Premier League trophy following another disappointing result.

The team owe it to their captain to put things right against Chelsea.

Tough night for Fabinho and Salah

Fabinho who has previously been described by assistant manager Pep Ljinders as the club’s very own ‘lighthouse’ was the standout player against Burnley at the weekend but was hugely disappointing against Arsenal in the capital.

The Brazilian powerhouse was surprisingly sloppy in possession and looked the shadow of his former self having given the ball away needlessly on far too many occasions.

Despite a passing accuracy of 87 per cent, Fabinho was bettered in that regard by five of his Liverpool teammates and he only managed to win 50 per cent of his tackles attempted.

The same woes can be said when describing Mohamed Salah’s performance, who enjoyed one of his quieter performances for Liverpool this season.

Salah managed just 14 passes all night as well as a disappointing 27 touches. The Egyptian cut the image of a player that looked lost rather than a man possessed to retain his Premier League Golden Boot for a third successive season.

Midfield woe

In recent performances, it has seemed that Klopp has struggled to find a solution in midfield to cope with the absence of Henderson and vice-captain James Milner.

Similarly to Burnley, Liverpool totally dominated possession but failed to find any cutting-edge in their delivery to break through Arsenal lines.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled on his return to the Emirates and Georginio Wijnaldum looked out of ideas on far too many occasions when on the ball.

Naby Keita has impressed in recent weeks and is arguably the most deserving of a place when the Reds return to action against Chelsea at Anfield next Wednesday.

LOVREN TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL FOR RUSSIA (CONFIRMED)

Monday, July 13, 2020

Klopp makes sacrifice as Dejan Lovren reaches agreement on surprise transfer

Dejan Lovren is closing on an unexpected move to Russia to end his six-year spell at Liverpool.

Croatian defender Lovren has appeared for the Reds 185 times since arriving in a £20m deal from Southampton in 2014.

However, with just a year left on his contract, he will be allowed to move on this summer.

We reported earlier in the year that Lovren will have his pick from a four London clubs, while Roma and Napoli were also keen.

But The Times claims Lovren is, in fact, set to move to Zenit St Petersburg – and he won’t cost them a penny.

According to Russian journalist Andrey Pankov, of Russia outlet Championship, Lovren could make the move as a free agent.

That’s because Lovren has an ‘agreement’ with Liverpool that he can leave early.

Reports suggest Jurgen Klopp has sanctioned the departure due to his outstanding service to the club. It’s claimed the German doesn’t want to force the centre-half to stay with the club and sit on the bench.

Last September, Lovren admitted Klopp convinced him to stay at Anfield for another season.

“I wanted to leave, it didn’t happen, I was told Liverpool need me and I accepted that,” he said.

“It was not meant to be for me to leave.

“Last week I spoke to Klopp again. He told me he understands me, knows I am not happy, but he also said: ‘Look, now it [the transfer window] is finished, I want you to reset your head, you’re important’.”

Liverpool, of course, have Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk as their first choice defensive pairing.

The Premier League champions also have Joel Matip to call on, while Fabinho can fill in when required. Furthermore, they have also been linked with the likes Ben White and Kalidou Koulibaly as replacements.

Lovren ‘always ready’

Lovren has played just 17 minutes since the resumption, in the 0-0 draw at Everton.

But he’s been nursing a slight injury and will leave with Liverpool’s best wishes.

The defender, back on the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, insists he will always be ready to play while a Liverpool player.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m always ready. If someone is injured and coming off, I’m ready to step in and show my quality. I think I proved that last season, when Joe Gomez or Joel Matip were injured and I came in and played.

“My goal is to play and to win as many trophies as possible. After that, we will see what happens.”
Lovren admits he just wants to play regular football, adding: “Of course, it’s not the happiest moment when I see myself on the bench, but it’s the decision of the manager. I respect it and I am always the guy who will work 200 per cent behind closed doors.”

"It was Liverpool v Nick Pope" - Klopp praises Burnley goalkeeper as Reds drop points at Anfield

Liverpool failed to win at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time in 18 months after Burnley scraped a 1-1 draw on Merseyside.

Credit where it’s due, goalkeeper Nick Pope kept the Lancashire outfit in the game and Jay Rodriguez struck late on with an equaliser.

The Reds pushed for a last-minute winner, but Mo Salah’s final kick of the game – a whimper of a shot on his weaker foot – summed up our potency going forward on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp was complimentary of Pope post-match, and saw some positives in Liverpool’s game. “Good performance in most parts,” he’s quoted as saying by Paul Gorst.

It was Liverpool v Nick Pope. A challenge to create against a team so well organised. There was always one guy who was out to deny us and we left it open for Burnley.

The boss refused to put any of the blame on match officials, with some supporters questioning whether or not we should have had a penalty in the second-half.

Like many fans right now, Klopp will be well aware of the one big target we’ve got left this season – Manchester City’s points record.

With that in mind, dropping two points in the pursuit of near-perfection isn’t ideal – and he’ll know that. The Reds now need to win the remaining three games to break 100 points.

It’s a fine thing to be worried about to be fair, with Liverpool already confirmed as the Champions of England!

Why we should all stop calling Manchester United 'Man U'

Some football clubs have names that’ll just roll off the tip of your tongue – take Everton, for example.

They have the nickname ‘the Blues’, but there really isn’t a need to shorten down their name.

It’s pretty much the same for Liverpool – ‘the Reds’ – but Manchester United are given numerous alternative names because theirs is a mouthful.

The shorthand is often Man United, or even just United – the same goes for Manchester City – but some fans will often shorten their name down to ‘Man U’.

This is wrong.

Tribalism in football can be ugly, with a minority of rival supporters sometimes turning to tragedy to ‘get one over’ the opposition.

Unfortunately, the Hillsborough, Heysel and Munich disasters are typically brought up a few times per season – to just name a few.

And this is where we explore why ‘Man U’ is inappropriate shorthand for Manchester United, as it was never their fans who gave them that name.

The unfortunate nickname was first used by some rival supporters in a disgusting chant about the Munich disaster, As Said By Bleacher Report.

The song went like this:

Man U, Man U, went on a plane,
Man U, Man U, never came back again.

So by referring to the club as such, fans are unknowingly causing offence.

If you use ‘Man U’, it’s time to scrap it and stick to Manchester United, Man United, United or just call them ‘the Mancs’ like I do.

RIVAL REPORTERS FINALLY ADMIT WHY SALAH IS SO SPECIAL

News Update

Liverpool are up against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with just four fixtures left for the Reds this season.

The Champions took a bit of a tumble against Manchester City and Aston Villa, but bounced back with a comfortable win against Brighton in the week.

There were some surprise inclusions in the squad that travelled down south – including young full-back Neco Williams, who put in a good first-half shift.

So predicting how the Reds will line-up against Burnley this weekend may be difficult, but I’ll give it a go.

In goal will be Alisson – in the pursuit of as many points as possible, there is no benefit in putting the Brazilian on the bench.

I predict the back four will be the usual suspects of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We’ll probably see some rotation though – with Naby Keita being dropped – I imagine Jurgen Klopp will be anxious about losing another midfielder.

With the Guinean’s injury record, the boss may not risk him against a physical Burnley side – especially now Jordan Henderson is a doubt for the start of next season.

I predict the midfield trio will be Fabinho, James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum.

Up top, Bobby Firmino simply has to start with the Brazilian repeatedly reaffirming his importance to the team. He’ll likely be joined by both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Takumi Minamino start.

My predicted starting XI for Liverpool v. Burnley: Alisson, van Dijk, Gomez, Trent, Robertson, Fabinho, Milner, Wijnaldum, Salah, Minamino, Firmino.

REPORTED: THIAGO ALCÂNTARA COULD POSSIBLY JOIN LIVERPOOL

Monday, July 6, 2020

Thiago actually lauded ‘great’ Liverpool last year.

Could Thiago Possibly Join Liverpool?

Thiago is being constantly linked to Liverpool right now, with the Bayern Munich midfielder not keen on extending his stay in Germany – which means the Bundesliga champions will likely sell this summer to avoid losing him for nothing in 2021.

David Ornstein has stated there is a mutual admiration between player and club, with Jurgen Klopp a known fan of the Spaniard – famously praising him in 2017 when we bought Naby Keita.

But Thiago has spoken highly of Liverpool, too – doing so before last season’s Champions League Last 16 clash.

MORE: JURGEN KLOPP REFUSES PSG APPROACH!!!!

“They play awesome football these past years, and they increase every year. They are fighting in the Premier League now with the same points as [Manchester] City,” he said a year and a half ago, cited in the Echo.

“In the Champions League they do it, not so great in performances (Liverpool struggled in the group stage), but they are great.

“Yeah we are looking forward because we expect a great match, not just against a great team but also a great crowd.”

Liverpool of course went on to beat Bayern convincingly and win the Champions League – adding the Premier League crown this season – so we can only imagine Thiago feels even more strongly about us than before!

At 29, and with a huge list of past injuries, we still feel the transfer is unlikely – and that we’d perhaps only cash in if Gini Wijnaldum was refusing his own contract extension – also set for expiration in 2021.

But if the Dutchman pens new terms, and Naby Keita stays, is there really room for Thiago in Klopp’s central three?

REPORTED: LIVERPOOL NOT INTERESTED IN KOULIBALY

Liverpool are not interested in signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, but they may be in the market for another centre back if Dejan Lovren leaves Anfield.

Several reports have suggested Koulibaly is top of Jurgen Klopp’s wanted list, but it’s understood Liverpool’s strict transfer policy prohibits them spending more than £60m on a 29-year-old.

Koulibaly is one of the hottest properties in Europe, with his commanding performances seeing him linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG. The Napoli President has said the club would laugh off any offer below £60m - instead, they value him around £90m.

Liverpool Coach; Jurgen Klopp Refuses PSG APPROACH

Liverpool already have four centre backs in Lovren, Virgil Van Dyke, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Lovren is currently fourth choice - his only league start of 2020 co-incides with Liverpool’s only Premier League defeat of the season - the 3-0 loss to Watford in February.

It’s thought Liverpool would be willing to listen to offers for the Croatian, who turns 31 next week and has one year left on his contract - but only if they can get a replacement in once the transfer window opens.

Anfield Updates

Reasons Why Mo. Salah Is So Special.

Punch their names into your search engines and Klopp’s admiration for Salah can be viewed repeatedly. Words such as ‘sensational’ and ‘exceptional’ are the only ones appropriate when you consider what Salah has achieved at Anfield.

So, what makes him so special?

It’s such an important season for him, after a flying season in which nearly every shot was a goal, then being assessed by everyone, is it just a one-season thing?

“Keeping that level [the next season] is an even bigger achievement than scoring 40 goals last season, which was already an incredible achievement.”

Virgil van Dijk’s majestic performances at the back, Jordan Henderson’s leadership, Roberto Firmino’s skilful forward play and Sadio Mane’s brilliance means Salah is no longer the only player for Klopp to wax lyrical over.

But he continues to be Liverpool’s Mr Reliable in terms of goals. Nobody had been able to break the Messi-Ronaldo top two in European football’s scoring charts over a sustained period. Salah has managed it.

He’s done it through an insatiable desire to become the best - a quality associated with both Messi and Ronaldo - and Liverpool have reaped the rewards.

“Mo Salah isn’t selfish because he is a goalscorer,” says team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. “He’s got to do that. We can’t expect him to pass us the ball all the time and him to score loads of goals. The way he plays wins us games so he’s got to do what he’s got to do.”

Salah’s selfish streak isn’t always appreciated by his colleagues though. He infuriated Mane during the game at Burnley earlier this season after he elected not to pass and go it alone.

Salah didn’t score and Mane could be seen remonstrating long after Klopp substituted him at Turf Moor.

“These are things that happen in football,” explained Mane, once he’d calmed down. “Sometimes you have to say things face to face.

“Sometimes it happens that I am not given the pass. But we have reconciled and become the good friends we were before.”

But what’s it like to come up against the Egyptian King? Former Reds left-back Alberto Moreno often had to mark him in training and counts himself lucky that Salah doesn’t operate at full tilt at Melwood.

“I think Salah trains at 20 per cent because he's scared of injuring himself,” Moreno revealed.

None more so than Eddie Howe, whose Bournemouth side are the team Salah enjoys playing against most.

He’s scored in all six of the Premier League games he’s played against Bournemouth for the Reds - eight goals in total - including a hat-trick on the south coast last season.

While Howe hasn’t enjoyed his encounters with Salah over the past three seasons, his admiration for Liverpool’s number 11 has soared.

“When you are watching as a neutral or scouting a game, I think you can appreciate the quality of these players," says Howe.

“I am looking at them to see how I can transfer certain elements of their game into our players, and seeing what traits make them so unique.

“I have admired many of his performances this season, maybe not the ones against us, but that then becomes a different emotion.”

Salah’s showings have even drawn comparisons to six-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and the Argentine is a fan of the Reds superstar.

“He has been amazing for Liverpool. I like his style,” said Messi in a short but incredibly sweet appraisal of Salah’s credentials.

Messi is approaching his 33rd birthday and someone will soon have to succeed him as football’s number one. Why can’t that man be Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah?

Robbo's one-word response to cheeky LFC x PL tweet at 2AM is brilliant

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Liverpool were confirmed as the 2019/20 Premier League Champions last night and it went off!

Fans, players and club officials alike celebrated and shared moments on social media, but full-back Andy Robertson may take the cake for a one-word tweet.

LFC’s official Twitter account shared a message at 11.30pm, suggesting supporters will not be getting much sleep.

Although rhetorical, the club asked fans ‘Not going to sleep tonight, are we?’ to which Robbo responded ‘No.’ a solid three hours later!

More: Roy Keane Explains When He'll Consider Judging Liverpool As A 'really Good Team'

You’d have to imagine the lads will be given the morning off from training – they’ve more than earned a little indulgent break!

Robertson, along with the rest of the active senior squad, will go down in Liverpool folklore. Fans of this great club will never forget this triumph.

Supporters had been waiting 30 years for this moment, and while it’s not exactly how we all pictured it, you’re sure as hell right we’re going to celebrate.

The 2019/20 title is the Reds’ 19th domestic championship – hopefully a number we can bump up to 20 in the next couple of seasons to re-joinManchester United at the very top and truly be right back on our perch.

Roy Keane explains when he'll consider judging Liverpool as a 'really good team'

Roy Keane believes Liverpool must follow up this season’s likely Premier League title with a succession of them over the next decade before he considers us a special outfit.

The Irishman has explained how many sides or players can do it for one or two years, but the great ones build a legacy and perform at the top level consistently.

“I’m certainly not anti-Liverpool. When I was growing up in the ’80s, Liverpool were obviously a brilliant team and I had a lot of respect for players like Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton. I take my hat off to [that] Liverpool. They were a very, very good team. They were constantly winning League titles,” Keane told the Irish Independent.
“People will always connect me with United, but I would never begrudge a team winning the league. They deserve it. They have been outstanding over the last couple of seasons. The sign of any good team is to be consistent, and that’s what they’ve been.

“So, to win the title is amazing, a fantastic achievement, but the important thing for any big club is to kick on. How many titles can they win over the next five, ten years? That’s how I judge the really good teams.

“It’s the same with players. I’ve seen players have one or two good seasons and they get a bit giddy, a bit excited. And before you know it, you don’t hear of them any more.”

In some ways, Keane has a point – and many Reds will be disappointed if our current team – in all its brilliance – doesn’t go on to define this football era – considering half the starting XI is arguably the best player in the world in his position.

Right now, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are five points from confirmed Premier League title glory, following the 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park. The team ran out of ideas late on, but still kept a clean-sheet and will hope to show some more offensive thrust at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.

When we could wrap it up depends on Manchester City’s results, but assuming Pep Guardiola’s side win their games – we could secure no.19 with a win over Palace and either a draw or a victory v City themselves on Wednesday next week.

Liverpool finally explain Xherdan Shaqiri situation

We’re pretty sure Xherdan Shaqiri has been injured but in a good way for about six months!

The Swiss last played about 30 seconds from the bench against Spurs in January, and hasn’t been seen since.

His exact issues have rarely been specified, but he’s not available for our Premier League return tomorrow evening at Goodison Park – with Jurgen Klopp confirming he’s the only absentee.

“He was injured and he is not ready but he is on a good way,” explained Klopp to the official website, after somewhat of a radio silence on the playmaker.
“Shaq has trained but not in massive parts with the rest of the team. He will not be [out for] long, but he is the only one out.”
It’s almost certain that Shaqiri will leave Liverpool this summer, and we suppose the task now for Michael Edwards is to find a buyer ready to pay a sum close to the pre-lockdown fee we were hoping for.

The likes of Shaqiri, Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson would have secured us millions, but the financial landscape has changed and we don’t think mid-table clubs will be spending big on our fringe anymore.

Shaq is a brilliant footballer, but we’re not sure his attributes benefit Klopp’s system. He hasn’t got the pace or dynamism to play on our flanks, and we don’t really use attacking central midfielders.

We’ll always have some wonderful memories of him though, and we hope when he does move, he manages to stay fit and showcase his undeniable talent regularly.

Klopp speaks about Manchester City not using Leroy Sane off the bench.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the new FIFA rule that teams will be allowed five substitutions until the end of the season.

On Wednesday night, we saw it for the first time in the Premier League, as Pep Guardiola showcased Manchester City’s jaw-dropping depth by selecting five elite subs from his bench – still managing to keep Leroy Sane sat down!

Klopp was impressed by this and was explaining how while it may look like an advantage to bigger clubs, it’s mainly about giving players adequate rest periods.

“I heard in the beginning that clubs who are rather at the bottom of the table say there’ll be an advantage for the bigger teams,” he told the official website. “When you look at City last night and saw who they could change, you think ‘Wow, they can change five times and still Leroy Sane is on the bench.’ That’s of course not bad. But in the end it’s not about that, it’s really about that we can save the players as much as possible, that we can give them the rest in a time where there is no rest.”

Sane looks set to be heading to Bayern Munich this summer, which we’re quite pleased with due to his exceptional ability.

A few things surprised us about watching the City game, most notably the reaction of Ederson and Pep

Guardiola to Eric Garcia’s injury, but they’re obviously still an incredible side and the manner in which they dismantled Arsenal makes the 22 point gap between us and them even more remarkable.

Now, we just need to get the job done – and continue our imperious form into the new season!

What Werner has said about signing for Chelsea after his first-choice Liverpool rejected deal.

Chelsea have officially signed Timo Werner, with the Telegraph stating the move is at around £47.5m.

The player had been endlessly linked to Liverpool, with the Athletic confirming that the player’s preference was to join us and play for Jurgen Klopp, but in the end, the club decided the finances did not add up in this current climate.

Chelsea have pounced and will now be able to field an intriguing front-three of Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic next term – which is very decent – but not nearly as impressive as what Liverpool deploy up top.

Werner has peddled out a fairly cliche ridden message upon the confirmation of the deal, which if anything, is less enthusiastic than what he said about Liverpool when we were simply being linked with him!

‘I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,’ he told the official Chelsea website

‘I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years.

You will forever be in my heart. I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans.

Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.’

In all seriousness though, Werner will do well at Stamford Bridge. He’s a clinical forward with all the attributes and time on his side.

But even if he does well, which we think he will, Liverpool fans need to look at the overall picture and where the two sides finish in the table next term.

If Werner scores 30 goals but we still win the title, it cannot be branded a poor decision!

Mo Salah and Andy Robertson injury update pre-Everton clash will delight Reds

It looks like Liverpool will be at full strength next weekend for the Merseyside Derby, with Andy Robertson and Mo Salah overcoming recent minor injury concerns.

The duo both featured in a friendly game played at Anfield yesterday – so should be totally fine by next Sunday.

Liverpool squad has no fitness worries so far ahead of first game back.

There was an inter-squad game at Anfield yesterday, which involved Mo Salah and Andy Robertson after they had sat out Blackburn friendly as a precaution.

We think Jurgen Klopp’s first starting XI of the season’s resumption will be as follows: Alisson, Trent, Robbo, Gomez, van Dijk; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

The only contentious spot is whether to select Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain or Keita alongside Fabinho and captain Hendo in midfield,
– but we think the manner in which Keita has regained fitness and shone in the off-season might well have earned him a start,
 – especially as the other two have had niggling injury issues.

Liverpool need six more points to guarantee the title – but only three if Arsenal do us a favour and beat Manchester City on Wednesday.

Carragher blames the coronavirus pandemic for Werner's LFC move collapsing.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the coronavirus pandemic is entirely to blame for Timo Werner’s Anfield move collapsing.

The RB Leipzig forward seemed destined to join the Reds this summer, but breaks were put on the deal as the global situation worsened.

The financial ramifications of the pandemic are yet to be fully realised, but Liverpool are reportedly set for a quiet summer in the transfer window.

Carragher doesn’t think it’s just about the money though, the Sky Sports pundit claims Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino are now better suited for next season.

The pandemic has resulted in many global sporting events being cancelled – and the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations is set to be moved to January 2022.

Carragher surmises that Werner would have been given fewer opportunities, because there would be less of a reason to rotate and rest the front three.

I honestly believe that if the pandemic hadn’t happened then Timo Werner would have been a Liverpool player,” he’s quoted as saying by the Mirror.

If Werner had signed for Liverpool, he wouldn’t have been first choice because the front three is what it is.

He would have brought the versatility I think Liverpool are lacking because he can play out wide or through the middle.

But spending £50million on someone who would not be a first choice is a big decision.

If there had been the Olympics and the Africa Cup of Nations next season, then Klopp would have been able to guarantee Werner plenty of games when Salah and Mane were missing.

He’d have probably got 25-30 games in, but with those tournaments being postponed it would have been harder to convince Werner to sign, because the front three don’t miss many games.

While we agree with Carragher that the pandemic is to blame for the collapse of any deal the Reds were working on, it’s difficult to say whether the German striker would have not been given less opportunities.

The chance of Werner playing ahead of Firmino and starting two deep-lying midfielders remained, changing up our typical 4-3-3 formation – we don’t know what Klopp was planning.

Liverpool to move for Zaniolo if Roma are forced to sell - report.

Liverpool are said to be interested in making a move for Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, should the Italian be forced to move on this summer.

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting a lot of things globally – and football is no different.

Tuttosport claim that Roma may be forced to sell some of their stars to endure the financial upset caused by the virus.

The report states that Liverpool are ‘hot’ on the midfielder’s trail and are keeping an eye on the situation.
While this could be a reach from Tuttosport, it does make a great deal of sense.

The Reds have shown interest in the finest young players across the world, including the likes of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Kai Havertz, so keeping an eye on Zaniolo makes sense.

The report doesn’t claim if we’re going to make a move or not, simply stating that we’re one of the names at the forefront outside of Italy.

We didn’t move for Haaland and aren’t likely to go for Mbappe or Havertz any time soon, so to say we’re interested in Zaniolo is a harmless speculation.

Tuttosport claim Roma would entertain bids of €60million, but this figure is likely to change.
